The tragic events at Grenfell Tower in London have made us all more aware of fire safety, so we are reviewing our current fire safety systems and controls.
We also want to reassure all of our tenants who may be worried about fire safety in their home. We don’t own or manage any high rise developments and none of our flats have any combustible cladding fitted. All homes owned by Cadwyn have a hard wired smoke detector.
If you live in a flat (or hostel), communal areas will be fitted with fire detection equipment and this equipment is checked by a specialist engineer either weekly, monthly or quarterly depending on the building type, and serviced 4 times a year. You will have also been given advice about what to do if a fire breaks out. Please pay attention to the information you have been given.
We know from our inspections that some tenants put items in the communal areas such as bikes or pieces of furniture. It is important that these areas are kept clear as they are an escape route for people in the event of a fire. Blocking an exit route breaks Fire Regulations and is a breach of tenancy because of the potential impact on other people in the flats. Please, therefore, make sure that all communal areas are kept clear and help to keep everyone safe.
