A transformational social housing development by Cadwyn Housing Association has been officially opened in Roath by the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, Jayne Bryant.
Located to the rear of Albany Road Baptist Church, Blenheim Court is an innovative redevelopment project providing high quality, energy efficient homes and new community facilities.
The project has brought the historical former church school building – originally built in the 19th century – back into community use with the creation of 12 one-bedroom socially rented apartments. The ground floor also incorporates a modern community facility and café space for the local community.
Blenheim Court is a supported housing scheme with staff on-site 24 hours a day to enable residents to live independently in their own home, but with the assurance of additional support. The residential element of the scheme was supported through a £1.7m grant from the Welsh Government Social Housing Grant.
During her visit, the Cabinet Secretary toured the new facility, learned more about the building’s restoration, and met with Cadwyn staff, partners, and members of the local community.
Simon Morris, Cadwyn’s Development and Assets Director, said: “Blenheim Court is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when working in partnership to preserve heritage and combine with community need. This development helps support our goal of providing affordable homes of the highest quality for those in need of housing.”
“We’re proud to have worked closely with Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government to make this vision a reality.”
Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, Jayne Bryant, said: “The £1.7 million Social Housing Grant investment in this development reflects the Welsh Government’s unwavering commitment to delivering more homes and with over £1.25 billion already invested through the programme over this term of government and £317 million due for 2025-26, we are absolutely determined to keep delivering the homes Wales needs.”
