A Cardiff supported housing hostel which helps homeless families to rebuild stable lives and tenancies is proudly celebrating 20 years of vital support in the community.
Nightingale House, operated by Cadwyn Housing Association, marked the occasion with a joyous Summer party full of activities for residents, staff and guests including the Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, Jayne Bryant.
Since opening its doors in 2005, Nightingale House has helped around 2,000 individuals offering not just shelter, but a pathway to independence.
During the past two decades, the hostel has received numerous accolades, including awards from the Welsh Housing Awards and sector body Cymorth Cymru. Their tireless efforts have also been cited at both Westminster and the Senedd as best practice for supporting vulnerable families and those who regularly go missing.
Jason Wroe, Chief Executive of Cadwyn, said:
“This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the strength of the families we support. Today is a snapshot and celebration of two decades of incredible work but the impact of Nightingale House truly is immeasurable.”
Kerry Rowlands, Supported Housing Manager at Nightingale House, said:
“I’m delighted so many people who’ve supported us over the years to reach this landmark have been able to celebrate with us today. The smiles all round from the families showcase why Nightingale House has had such a purpose over the 20 years and continues to do so.”
Jayne Bryant, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, added: “This landmark anniversary celebration of Nightingale House is a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the considerable contribution that those working in the homelessness sector are making to communities in Cardiff.
“Ending homelessness in Wales requires systemic change, and we recently introduced a Bill to the Senedd which aims to transform our homelessness system, focussing on prevention and providing more tools to support people in need.
“Investment is also key to preventing homelessness, and the Welsh Government has invested almost £220 million in homelessness prevention and support this year alone.”
