Frequently Asked Questions

Is everyone who applies accepted onto the list?

No, you may not be accepted if the Exclusions Panel determines that you should be excluded on a temporary or permanent basis because:

  • You were previously a tenant with any of the partner landlords and still have significant outstanding debts owing
  • You were previously a tenant with any of the partner landlords and were evicted for serious anti-social behaviour
  • You have committed serious crimes (please see the exclusions panel information at the bottom of this page for more information)

What happens if my application is successful?

When a property becomes empty our Housing Team select the applications with the highest points for that type of property. We will then:

  • Visit you at home to make sure that the information we have about you is up to date
  • Confirm any existing support arrangements and discuss whether any support may be required if a tenancy is offered
  • Make a provisional offer to the household whose needs most match the size and type of property that is available.

What if I have a query about my application?

If you have any queries about your application please contact Cardiff Council on 02920 537111

Exclusions Panel

The Exclusion Panel aims to ensure that people in Cardiff can live peacefully within their communities. It also aims to reduce the number of failed tenancies and incidences of anti-social behaviour by excluding the following people from the housing waiting list:

  • Those who have broken a previous tenancy agreement for neighbour nuisance, anti-social and/or destructive behaviour
  • Those who have been convicted of criminal activities which are defined as anti-social and/or destructive to the community e.g. house breaking, drug dealing or street crime.

The exclusion will last for 12 months, after which the excluded person may apply again.
