Solar Power

As part of Cadwyn’s commitment to help tenants reduce their energy bills we have been working in partnership with A P Electrical & Renewable Energy Ltd to install solar panels onto suitable tenants’ homes. In the last 12 months Cadwyn has installed solar panels onto 171 homes, including 2 communal areas, 10 on new builds at Clos Tan Y Ffarm and 1 on our hostel, Nightingale House.

The solar panels generate electricity from daylight, this electricity is then converted into a usable form by a silent machine called an inverter which normally sits in the loft. This ‘free’ electricity is then fed into the main fuse box of the house and will be used before regular electricity from the grid. Therefore significant savings could be made on electricity bills. Any free electricity that is not used will be fed back into the national grid and via the feed-in tariff scheme Cadwyn can fund the cost of the panels.

With the loft insulation programme now also underway Cadwyn are on track to make their homes more energy-efficient and to help tenants save money on their energy bills.
