Cadwyn helps over 100 people beat unemployment!

In the past year we have helped over 100 people to get back into work through our Employment & Training programme.

There are currently 133,000 people unemployed in Wales and over 10,000 are based in Cardiff. Over the past year we have noticed an increase in the number of people applying for social housing due to unemployment.

We also house a number of homeless people and have witnessed first-hand the severe effects that unemployment can have on every other aspect of a person’s life. For this reason we decided to help tackle unemployment by providing, volunteering, training and employment opportunities for tenants and other people in the local community.

Over 100 people have been supported in the last year to reach their work-related goals. This has included helping people into jobs or further education, investing in and supporting apprenticeships, developing people’s employability skills and working with schools and colleges to help future generations into employment and education.

The people involved have developed significantly in confidence and skills and there have been a number of very positive success stories. Agata Toth, 30, completed a 4 month voluntary work placement in our HR team and has now been offered full time employment with a PR company, where she will be starting up their first HR department, she commented:

‘I would like to thank Cadwyn for giving me an amazing opportunity to learn so much about HR. The support, advice and guidance that I’ve been given has been incredible and I am really grateful to Cadwyn for helping me to realise my full potential.’

Chris Boobyer, 48, a tenant of ours started volunteering following a change in circumstances and 18 years out of work. Chris lacked confidence and was very nervous about entering the workplace after such a long time, so a slow-phased approach was arranged to help him gain experience. This started with him job shadowing our maintenance operative in CanDo Lettings.

Chris was also supported with job searches, job coaching and accessing computer and literacy classes. Chris’ confidence has improved dramatically and he has now secured a job with a cleaning company.

Chris commented: ‘My confidence has grown a lot since volunteering with Cadwyn and this is because I know that I can rely on them to do what they say they’ll do and because they have given me so much one-to-one support.’

If you are interested in Cadwyn’s employment, training or volunteering opportunities please contact Helen Williams on 029 2043 4428 or helen.williams@cadwyn.co.uk. There are a variety of opportunities that can be offered both within Cadwyn and through partner organisations and each opportunity is tailored to the individual’s needs.
