Nightingale House is a hostel established in partnership with Local Authority to provide, safe temporary accommodation for homeless families who need support to resolve issues, and enable them to manage their own accommodation within the community they move on to. Special consideration has been given to the needs of children and to ensure that safety and security is a key feature of the design solution.
Nightingale House has 26 rooms all with their own bathroom and most have their own mini kitchen. Each floor has an extra bathroom. There is a wheelchair accessible bedroom for people who have a physical impairment.
The large ground-floor communal area features a play area as well as computers with internet access to aid the learning and educational needs of the adults, young people and children staying at the hostel. Regular IT training is offered to every resident at the hostel.
The hostel also boasts a dedicated Halal kitchen
It is staffed on a twenty-four hour basis by dedicated day and night staff at the Hostel. The Nightingale House staff team work very closely with other services such as parenting support, local health board, social services, schools, counselling, leisure and learning organisations to best meet the needs of all of the people that will be staying at the hostel.
The hostel was completed and opened in November of 2005. The total project cost including the purchase and the fitting out was approximately 2.7M. Funding for the project was raised through a Social Housing Grant from the Welsh Assembly Government, Private finance and a grant for specific project work from Barclays Bank.
Nightingale House's first Birthday party took place in November of 2006 and was celebrated well!
