Cadwyn sets up Wales’ first Imagination Library

Cadwyn staff met Dolly at her concert in Cardiff

We are setting up Wales’ first Imagination Library, a programme that was originally established by Dolly Parton in her hometown of Tennessee, USA in 1996.

The programme provides a free age-appropriate book, for all children who have been registered, every month up until their 5th birthday. The purpose of the programme is to improve children’s literacy skills by giving parents access to books regardless of their income. Following its success in Tennessee, the programme has been rolled out across America, Canada and the UK.

As part of the Imagination Library programme, we are also setting up a reading club for parents and children to further improve literacy skills and to encourage parents and children to read together.

To help fund the programme we recently organised a football competition for staff, tenants, other housing associations, contractors and suppliers, which raised over £1000.  We would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition and helped us raise this fantastic amount.

Cadwyn is now setting up the first Imagination Library in Wales, for the children of our tenants, staff and board members. We will be officially launching the programme on October 28th at our office. All tenants with children under 5 are welcome to come along to the event and find out more about the programme. You will then be able to register your child – free of charge.

If you would like to attend the launch on October 28th or for any other details please contact Leynie Meagher on 029 2049 8898 or email Leynie.Meagher@Cadwyn.co.uk.
